ULTRA 230

This is the little but great universal Newton telescope from NortheK! A superb 230 mm optics, solidly intubated into a carbon monolithic piece, with a simple optical configuration and an effective focal ratio.

The Ultra 230 is a starting  point for many amateur astronomers who want to do visual or photographic observations. The focal ratio is easy to manage and allows the user to operate in both hi-res and deep sky.

The mechanical construction is basic but sound, it permits the use of light set ups and relatively simple mounts making the telescope easy to move and transport. The Ultra 230 is the all-rounder of the 230 mm from NortheK.

A starting point for some amateur astronomers, the Ultra 230 is a point of arrival for others. Versatility and competitive price are the assets of this good and affordable telescope, ideal for those who don’t need anything too expensive and sophisticated but want good quality and performance. The Ultra 230 is always the right choice and a good investment over time.

Description

Sometimes even experienced astronomers struggle to find the right telescope. The preferred solution is generally to purchase a highly specialized instrument (such as long focus for hi-res) which allows the best use of the electronics and the location. However, for the amateurs who do not have a fixed emplacement or a large area available, it can be difficult to find a well manufactured telescope with the necessary technical characteristics for both uses, visual and imaging, without compromising.

Our Newton f 6 is a valid answer to this kind of requirement. It offers a medium focal lenght for hours of relaxing visual or photographic observation of planets and the solar system.

The coma-free field is rather wide and it is possible to improve it further with normal correctors available on the market.

The focal 1400 mm with 2x or 3x magnification factor allows a hi-res performance. The 230 mm diameter is also effective with most sky conditions and highly recommendable to those who often operate in difficult visibility.

The rather long tube has a composite material construction to limit the weight below 15 kgs (completed and ready for use). This allows the use of the instrument even with economic mounts for observation purposes or, in case of photographic use, with 25 kg instrument load mounts (the ratio between the tube weight and the loads is necessary to avoid any O.T.A.  lever).

From a mechanical point of view this telescope follows the DK 230  characteristics, it has in fact the same cell and the same construction, a 2″ Feather Touch focuser but a modified support (AxyS A3) especially studied for Newton telescopes. The collimation is consistently accurate.

The thin glasses and the NortheK self-centering system ensure the telescope becomes operational very quickly. This is particularly important because-despite its size- this instrument is very easy to transport.

The Ultra 230 is supplied with rings, plates (either Losmandy or Vixen) and opposite counter-plates.

The exact optical parameters such as back focus, distance between primary and secondary mirrors, dimensions of glasses, are confirmed exactly in the optical certificates provided with each optic and/or instrument.

Important notice: the secondary mirror setting (minox axis) is made according to the customers’ requirements and it will depend either on the sensor used if the telescope is meant to be used for photographic application or on the fully illuminated field in case of visual use. The customer could then go from one setting to the other by simply buying the alternative secondary.
