We confirm that AstroSolar by itself is safe to look straight into the Sun.
This film is tested repeatedly for Eyesafety by world´s most recknowned test organisations. In Germany it is the PTB - the German Bureau of Standards.
We could never dare to supply a product who´s eye safety would endanger the eyesight of our customers. Our film is expressively tested and recommended by NASA as documented every year in the NASA solar Eclipse Bulletin - see attached excerpt of the NASA eclipse bulletin for the 2009 eclipse in China ( - further below we do attach a link to our solar images made in China this year).
We might direct the attention to another subject!
Several US-Companies are offering CaK Telescopes to visually observe the Sun at wavelengths around 390 nanometer !
Our company also produces a K-line filter - BUT WE EXPRESSIVELY PROHIBIT THE VISUAL USE !
IN THIS CASE WE KNOW THAT THE OBSERVATION OF THE SUN IN UV-(UV-A) WAVELENGTHS DEFINITELY DOES BLEACH THE RETINA AND THE EYE IN GENERAL.
We have 25 years of experience in solar films and solar filters! We did supply filters for 24 million solar eclipse viewers and countless telescopes - without any single or long term damage.
However we would never sell an item were we would know that it may cause long term eye damage to the user - such as staring straight into UV-A wavelengths.
So we are quite amazed that there can be a discussion about the low amount of IR-radiation passed by AstroSolar to be damaging the human eye. Since the invention of fire human beings have been staring into the intense heat of campfires for many hours and the eye has attained quite some tolerance concerning such heat radiation.
To the contrary the eye has never attained tolerance against aggressive UV-radiation as can be proven by the high amount of cataract-operations happening every year.
With best regards
